There are VERY few medical reasons for a child not to receive the recommended immunizations on schedule. In almost all cases, your child’s PCP will already be aware of any contraindications and will have discussed this with you well in advance. For example, some children who have a poorly functioning immune system cannot have live vaccines, but they can have the others (they just might not respond to them as well, which is one of many reasons why it’s important for us to have ‘herd immunity: to protect THOSE children). Rarely, a child may have a history of an allergy to a specific vaccine component, and should not receive further doses of that immunizations.
Fevers after immunizations, being sore or grumpy after shots, and having a family member who is pregnant are NOT contraindications.
If your child is in school and not fully immunized you will have received a letter from the school requesting that you provide the required documentation by tomorrow, 2/19/2025. Please call us if it appears that your child needs vaccines as we can double-check the records that we have and make an appointment if shots are needed.
If you do not plan on pursuing the required vaccines, the only way to obtain a philosophical or religious exemption is to watch the OHA’s online educational model at https://www.oregon.gov/oha/ph/preventionwellness/vaccinesimmunization/gettingimmunized/pages/non-medical-exemption.aspx
Our practice does NOT provide vaccine exemptions for religious or philosophical reasons.
